Stock Market Highlights, Monday, November 25, 2024: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, closed the first trading session of the week higher, up more than 1% apiece. The overwhelming victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, combined with global market strength, boosted markets.
The BSE Sensex rose 1,961.32 points, or 2.54 percent, to 80,109.85. The index rose to an intraday high of 80,473.08.
Mirroring the Sensex, the NSE Nifty50 closed higher by 314.65 points, or 1.32 percent, at 24,221.90, after reaching an intraday high of 24,351.55 on Monday.
The day finished in favour of the bulls, with 47 of the Nifty50’s component stocks in the green, headed by ONGC, BEL, BPCL, and Shriram Finance, which gained up to 5.48 percent. JSW Steel, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki India, and Bajaj Auto were among the 19 Nifty50 component stocks that closed in the red, with losses of up to 2.32 percent.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices finished up 2.03 percent and 1.61 percent, respectively.
All sectoral indices closed in the green, with the Nifty PSU Bank index outperforming the others, rising 4.16 percent on Monday. Among others, the Bank Nifty, Realty, and OMCs indices finished higher by over 2 per cent. This was followed by Nifty Financial Services, Media, Private Bank, and Consumer Durables, which ended higher by over 1 per cent each.
