Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, March 27, 2025: On Thursday, benchmark Indian equity indices ended the day higher. The 30-share Sensex ended the day at 77,606.43, up 317.93 points, or 0.41 percent. Today, the index fluctuated between 77,747.46 and 77,082.51.
Likewise, the NSE Nifty50 ended the day at 23,591.95, up 105.10 points, or 0.45%. The intra-day high and low of the Nifty50 were 23,646.45 and 23,412.20, respectively.
The top gainers on the Sensex, which ended up 2.85% higher, were Bajaj Finserv, NTPC, IndusInd Bank, Larsen & Toubro, and Bajaj Finance. Among the leading constituent laggards, which saw declines of up to 5.38 percent, were Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, Hindustan Unilever, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bharti Airtel.
With the Nifty Smallcap100 index closing higher by 1.15 percent, small-cap stocks drove the gains in the larger markets. Additionally, the Nifty Midcap100 index ended the day up 0.37 percent.
Every sectoral index, with the exception of Nifty Auto and Pharma, ended Thursday’s trading session higher. Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday of a 25% tariff on all imported cars that are not made in the US, auto stocks saw a sell-off. On Thursday, the Nifty Auto index ended the day down 1.04%.
In contrast, PSU banks performed better than others; Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank led the 2.50 percent advances in the Nifty PSU Bank index.
