Stock Market Highlights Thursday, September 18, 2025: The Indian benchmarks Sensex and Nifty closed higher on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve dropped interest rates by 25 basis points to the 4-4.25 percent range. The Sensex rose 320.25 points, or 0.39 percent, to end at 83,013.96.
The NSE Nifty50 finished at 25,423.60, up 93.35 points, or 0.37 percent.
The top gainers among the Sensex member stocks were Eternal, Sun Pharma, Infosys, HDFC Bank, and Power Grid Corporation, which rose by up to 2.89 percent. Bajaj Finance, Trent, Tata Motors, UltraTech Cement, and Asian Paints all declined by up as 1.03%.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 indices closed up 0.38 percent and 0.29 percent, respectively.
Healthcare and pharmaceutical businesses’ shares outperformed others, with the Nifty Pharma and Healthcare indices closing up 1.33 percent and 1.50 percent, respectively. IT companies were among the other significant gainers, with the Nifty IT index closing up 0.83 percent, driven by Coforge, LTIMindtree, Infosys, and Wipro.
Meanwhile, the fear index (India VIX), which measures market volatility, closed down 3.53 percent at 9.89 points.
The market breadth remained strong, with 1,606 out of 3,134 listed equities on the NSE closing up and 1,426 down. Meanwhile, 102 stayed flat on Thursday.
The entire market capitalisation of NSE-listed businesses was $5.25 trillion.
