Stock Market Highlights today, Friday, September 12, 2025:
The key Indian equities indices closed the week in positive territory. The BSE Sensex rose 355.97 points, or 0.44 percent, to 81,904.70, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 108.50 points, or 0.43 percent, to 25,114.
BEL, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, and Maruti Suzuki India were the top gainers, increasing by up to 3.67%. On the other hand, Eternal, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), Trent, Titan Company, and Asian Paints were the biggest laggards, falling by up to 1.94 percent.
Among the broader market indices, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 finished up 0.32 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively.
Except for Nifty FMCG, PSU Bank, and Media, all sectoral indexes closed in positive territory. The Nifty Metal index outperformed the sectoral indices, closing up 0.93 percent, led by strong performances from Hindustan Copper and Hindustan Zinc.
Meanwhile, the fear index (India VIX), which measures market volatility, closed down 2.29 percent at 10.12 points.
Market breadth remained strong, with 1,561 of the 3,145 traded stocks on the NSE closing in the green and 1,483 ending in the red. Meanwhile, 101 stocks were unchanged.
The market capitalisation of NSE-listed businesses was $5.14 trillion.
