Stock Market highlights Today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025: On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the key Indian equity indices settled in positive territory. After reaching an intraday high of 82,021, the Sensex retreated to 81,596.63, up 410.19 points or 0.51 percent.
The NSE Nifty50 ended up 129.55 points, or 0.52 percent, at 24,813.45.
24 of the Sensex’s 30 member equities closed higher, with gains of up to 2.02 percent led by Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finance. IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Power Grid Corporation, ITC, and Ultratech Cements were among the six Sensex constituent stocks that closed down by much to 1.87 percent on Wednesday.
The market breadth remained broadly favorable, with 2,304 of the 4,115 stocks traded on the BSE closing higher, 1,674 closing down, and 137 remaining unchanged.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices closed up 0.78 percent and 0.38 percent, respectively.
Except for consumer durables, all NSE sectoral indexes closed in the green, with the Nifty Realty and Pharma indices leading the way, up 1.72 percent and 1.25 percent, respectively, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the fear index (India VIX), which measures market volatility, finished up 0.93 percent at 17.55 points.
