Sensex today | Stock Market Close Highlights today, Wednesday, January 14, 2026: Indian benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, closed down after a tumultuous session, weighed down by falls in IT and real estate companies. Increased geopolitical tensions and uncertainties around the US-India trade accord also hampered any gains.
Meanwhile, the NSE and BSE will be closed on Thursday, January 15, 2026, due to municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra.
However, the BSE Sensex ended 0.29 percent, or 244.98 points lower, at 83,382.71, while the NSE Nifty50 closed at 25,665.60, down 66.70 points, or 0.26 percent.
On NSE, Tata Steel, NTPC and Axis Bank were top winners, while Asian Paints, TCS and Tata Consumer Products were top losers.
Broader markets closed higher. The Nifty SmallCap 100 index closed 0.67 percent higher, while the Nifty MidCap 100 index rose 0.29 percent.
Sectorally, the Nifty IT and Realty indices were the biggest losers, down 1.08 percent and 0.92 percent, respectively. On the other hand, Nifty Metal and PSU Bank were the top gainers, rising 2.70 percent and 2.13 percent, respectively.
