Stock market close highlights on Friday, August 8, 2025: In the midst of the current tariff dispute, US President Donald Trump ruled out any trade talks with India, which caused the Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, to close down on Friday.
The Nifty50 ended 232.85 points, or 0.95 percent, lower at 24,363.30 levels, while the BSE Sensex ended 765.47 points, or 0.95 percent, lower at 79,857.79 levels. This week, the Nifty lost 202 points while the Sensex lost 742 points.
Additionally, this was the benchmarks’ sixth consecutive weekly loss, the longest losing run since the March 2020 market crisis caused by COVID.
In addition, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, and M&M were among the worst laggards on the BSE, while NTPC, Titan, and Trent were the top gainers.
On the NSE, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Enterprises were among the biggest losers, while NTPC, Titan, and Dr. Reddy were the top winners.
Additionally, broader indices plummeted. SmallCap closed 1.49 percent down, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 1.64 percent worse.
Every section finished in the negative area. Having lost 2.11 percent, Nifty Realty was the biggest loser, followed by Nifty Metal (1.76 percent), Auto (1.40 percent), and Pharma (1.30 percent).
