Sensex Today | Stock Market Close Highlights, Wednesday, December 24, 2025: The Indian equities benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty50, closed lower on Wednesday, weighed down by losses in oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and information technology firms, while trading volumes remained low ahead of the Christmas holiday on Thursday.
However, the BSE Sensex closed at 85,408.70, down 116.14 points, or 0.14 percent. Likewise, the Nifty50 closed at 26,142.10, down 35.05 points or 0.13 percent.
The top gainers on the BSE were Trent, UltraTech Cement, and Maruti. Tata Motors PV, Sun Pharma, and Asian Paints were the biggest drags.
Trent, Shriram Finance, and Apollo Hospitals were the NSE’s top gainers, while IndiGo, Adani Ent, and Dr Reddy were the top losers.
Broader markets were mixed. The Nifty SmallCap 100 index increased 0.28 percent, while the Nifty MidCap 100 index fell 0.60 percent.
Sectorally, Nifty Oil and Gas was the biggest loser (-0.76%), followed by Nifty Metal and Pharma (-0.51% apiece). On the other hand, Nifty Media (0.44%), Metal (0.15%), and Realty (0.17%) were the sole winners.
