Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates, Thursday, February 05, 2026: India’s equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, closed lower after a three-day gain due to weakness in capital goods, metals, and select auto firms.
The Sensex hit an intra-day low of 83,152 and finished down 504 points, or 0.6%, at 83,314. In the process, the Sensex ended its three-day winning streak, during which the benchmark had gained 3,096 points.
The NSE Nifty fell as low as 25,579.50 before closing 133 points lower at 25,643 on Thursday.
Among the Sensex 30 shares – Eternal was the top loser, down 2.5 per cent. Bharti Airtel, Bharat Electronics (BEL), ITC, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and Infosys were the other major laggards, down around 1 per cent each. On the positive front, Trent gained 3 per cent, and Tata Steel advanced over a per cent.
In the broader market, the BSE Midcap 150 index down 0.5%, while the SmallCap 250 dropped nearly 1%.
Sectorally, the BSE Capital Goods and Metal indexes fell 1% apiece, while the Auto and Consumer Durables indices fell 0.7% and 0.9%, respectively. The overall market breadth was negative, with 2,468 stocks closing in the red versus 1,721 gainers on the BSE.
