Sensex Today | Stock Market Close Highlights, Monday, December 22, 2025: Despite mixed global indications, Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty50, closed higher on Monday, extending their gains from Friday.
The benchmarks were underpinned by buying interest in information technology (IT) and metal companies, as well as excitement surrounding the signing of the India-New Zealand free trade agreement.
Nonetheless, the BSE Sensex index closed at 85,567.48, up 638.12 points, or 0.75 per cent.Likewise, the NSE Nifty50 index closed at 26,172.40, up 206 points or 0.79 percent.
On the BSE, Trent, Infosys, and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers, while SBI, Kotak Mahindra, and Larsen and Toubro (L&T) were the top losers.
On the NSE, Trent, Shriram Finance, and Wipro were the top gainers, while HDFC Life, Tata Consumer, and SBI were the top losers.
Broader markets also gained. The Nifty SmallCap 100 index gained 1.17 percent. The Nifty MidCap 100 index rose 0.84 percent.
Sectorally, Nifty IT outperformed, rising 2.06%, followed by Metal (1.41%). The single sectoral loser was Nifty Consumer Durables (-0.16%).
