Stock Market close highlights, Thursday, July 17, 2025: Indian market benchmark indexes fell on Thursday as investors remained cautious in the face of a lackluster start to June quarter earnings domestically and US President Donald Trump’s comments on the India-US trade accord abroad. However, markets may stay turbulent as the Nifty50’s weekly F&O expires today.
The BSE Sensex slid 375.24 points, or 0.45%, to 82,259.24, while the NSE Nifty closed at 25,111.45, down 100.6 points, or 0.4%.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index declined 0.27%, while the Nifty SmallCap index fell 0.18%.
In addition, Nifty Bank, Auto, Financial Services, Media, and Oil & Gas all settled in red. On the other hand, Nifty Realty gained 1.24 per cent, followed by Metal, Consumer Durable, FMCG, Energy, and Pharma.
Among the Sensex constituents, 22 out of 30 stocks settled in red. Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Tech, Eternal, L&T, and TCS were the top laggards, falling up to 2.8 per cent. Tata Steel, Trent, Titan, Tata Motors, Ultratech, and Sun Pharma were the top gainers.
Meanwhile, the India VIX, which gauges market volatility, settled marginally higher at 11.24 points, up 0.02 per cent.
