Sensex today | Stock Market close highlights: After reaching new highs in the morning, the Indian equities benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, closed flat on Monday, December 1. The rupee fell to a new low amid weak foreign inflows and ongoing uncertainty about major trade discussions, dampening investor morale.
The BSE Sensex closed at 85,641.9, down 64.77 points (0.08 percent), while the NSE Nifty50 settled at 26,175.75, down 27.2 points (0.1%). In the first trading day, the Sensex reached a record high of 86,159, while the Nifty fell to 26,325.8.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index closed flat, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 0.25 percent.
The Nifty Realty index plummeted more than 1%, followed by Healthcare, Pharma, Bank, Financial Services, FMCG, Media, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas. On the contrary, Nifty Auto, Metal, and IT closed in the green.
Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Trent, Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, and Bharti Airtel were the Sensex’s biggest laggards. Tata Motors PV, Maruti Suzuki, Bharat Electronics, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Adani Ports, and HCL Tech were among the biggest gainers.
