Sensex today | Stock Market Highlights today, Monday, Feb 16: Indian benchmark indices rallied late Monday, halting a two-day losing run, boosted by advances in banking stocks.
The Nifty 50 closed 0.83 percent, or 211.65 points, higher at 25,682.75, while the 30-stock Sensex rose 0.79 percent, or 650.39 points, to 83,277.15.
Power Grid, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, NTPC, ITC, and Asian Paints were the Sensex pack’s top gainers, trading up to 4.5%. Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance, M&M, and Treny India were all trading down by up to 1.3%.
BSE, Angel One, and MCX shares plummeted up to 10% after the RBI amended capital market exposure guidelines. According to JM Financial, new restrictions benefit banks while tightening funding for brokers.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap rose 0.48 percent and 0.11 percent, respectively.
Sectorally, buying was observed in real estate, PSU banks, private banks, and pharmaceutical counters, while auto and metal stocks were under pressure.
