Stock market close highlights on Monday, August 4, 2025: The benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty50 closed higher today, buoyed by ongoing Q1 earnings and the opening of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, which will end on August 6.
The Sensex closed 0.52 percent higher, or 418.81 points, at 81,018.72, while the NSE’s Nifty50 rose 0.64 percent, or 157.40 points, to 24,722.75 levels.
On the BSE, Tata Steel, BEL, and Adani Ports were the top gainers, while Power Grid, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank were major laggards.
Similarly, the NSE’s top gainers were Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, and Adani Ports, while the top losers were Power Grid, HDFC Bank, and ONGC.
Broader indices beat benchmark indexes, settling higher. The Nifty Midcap 100 index concluded 1.40 percent higher, while the SmallCap settled 1.27 percent higher.
Except for Nifty FMCG, which fell 0.1%, all sectors ended in the green. The largest gainer was the Nifty Metal, which rose 2.45%. IT and Auto were next, both up 1.6%.
