Stock Market on Tuesday, December 16, 2025: The Indian market benchmark indices closed down on Tuesday, dragged down by weak global cues and losses in metal, real estate, and banking firms.
As of 3:30 PM, the Sensex was at 84,679.86, down 533.50 points or 0.63 percent, while the NSE Nifty50 was quoted at 25,860.10, down 167.20 points or 0.64 percent.
Axis Bank and Eternal were the highest losers among the Sensex 30 equities, falling up to 5%. Other big losers were HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cements, Bajaj Finance, and NTPC, all of which fell by more than 1%.
On the other hand, Titan and Bharti Airtel gained over 1 per cent each. Further, M&M, Asian Paints and Trent also ended higher.
The broader market followed the lead pack; the Nifty MidCap 100 fell 0.83%, while SmallCap fell 0.92%.
Sectorally, Nifty Realty and Nifty Private Bank declined more than 1%, followed by PSU Bank (down 0.89%) and Nifty IT (down 0.84%). On the plus side, Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Media were the only sectors in the green.
Meesho, a recently listed stock, surged 13% to ₹193.50 in intra-day trading. The stock currently trades at a 74 percent premium to its IPO price. Read more.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee reached a new all-time low of 91.01 against the US dollar today.
