Sensex today | Stock Market Highlights today, Friday, Sept 19: Indian stock markets started the week’s last trading session on a negative note, halting a three-day winning streak. The reduction was mostly due to greater profit booking levels and weakening in key industries such as IT, FMCG, and private banking.
The BSE Sensex closed at 82,626.23, down 387.73 points or 0.47 percent, while the Nifty50 ended at 25,327.05, down 96.55 points or 0.38 percent.
Adani Ports, State Bank of India (SBI), Bharti Airtel, NTPC, and Asian Paints were among the top gainers on the Sensex, with gains of up to 1.13 percent. On the other hand, the top losers were HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, Trent, Titan Company, and Mahindra & Mahindra, which fell by up to 1.52 per cent.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices gained 0.04 percent and 0.15 percent, respectively.
Sectorally, the Nifty PSU Bank index outperformed, closing up 1.28 percent. Other sectoral gainers were the Nifty Metal, Pharma, and Realty indices. In contrast, the FMCG, IT, Auto, and Private Bank indices closed lower, falling by much to 0.65%.
The overall market breadth was favorable, with 1,601 of the 3,133 equities listed on the NSE rising, 1,427 falling, and 105 remaining unchanged.
As of Friday’s end, the overall market capitalisation of NSE-listed businesses was $5.24 trillion.
