Stock Market Close Highlights, October 17, 2025: Indian stocks closed higher on Friday, reaching a 52-week high during the day. The Sensex and Nifty extended their advances for the third day in a row ahead of Diwali.
The BSE Sensex closed at 83,952.19, up 484.53 points or 0.58 percent, while the NSE Nifty50 traded at 25,709.85, up 124.55 points or 0.49 percent.
On the BSE, Asian Paints, M&M, Bharti Airtel, and HUL were among the top gainers, while Infosys, HCLTech, Eternal, and Tata Steel were among the top losers.
Nifty FMCG was the sector’s biggest gainer, up 1.37 percent. In contrast, the Nifty IT and Media indices fell 1.63 and 1.56 percent, respectively.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap 100 and SmallCap 100 fell 0.57 percent and 0.05 percent, respectively.
