Stock Market Highlights, Tuesday, February 11, 2025: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, extended their downward trend to conclude Tuesday’s trading session in negative territory, falling by more than 1% each, as investors expressed anxiety about US President Donald Trump’s tariff measures.
The 30-share Sensex fell as high as 1,018.20 points, or 1.32 percent, to close at 76,293.60. On Tuesday, the index fluctuated between 77,387.28 and 76,030.59. With today’s closing, the Sensex has lost 2,290 points over the last five trading sessions.
The NSE Nifty50, like the Sensex, ended lower by 309.80 points, or 1.32 percent, at 23,071.80. On Tuesday, the Nifty50 peaked at 23,390.05 and fell to 22,986.65.
44 of the 50 constituent stocks of the Nifty50 ended in the red, led by Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals, Shriram Finance, Coal India, and Bharat Electronics, which lost up to 6.70 percent on Tuesday. Adani Enterprises, Trent, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, and Hindalco were the only six Nifty50 component stocks that maintained their gains of up to 0.76%.
Broader markets matched the benchmarks, with the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices falling 3.45% and 3.02%, respectively.
All sectoral indices on the NSE finished in the red. Among these, the Nifty PSU Bank, Auto, Healthcare, Realty, and Media indices saw losses of up to 3.28 percent. The Nifty IT, FMCG, and Consumer Durables indices ended down by over 1 per cent each.
