Stock Market Highlights, Wednesday, November 13, 2024: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, resumed their losing skid on Wednesday, closing down more than 1% apiece. The BSE Sensex closed at 77,690.95, down 984.23 points (1.25 percent) from the previous close, trading in a range of 78,690.02-77,533.30.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 closed at 23,559.05, down 324.40 points or 1.36 percent from the previous finish, and was trading between a range of 23,873.60-23,509.60.
44 of the Nifty50 constituent stocks closed in the red, led by Hero MotoCorp, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Eicher Motors, which lost up to 4.21 percent. In contrast, Britannia, Tata Motors, Grasim, Asian Paints, and NTPC were among six constituent stocks of the Nifty50 that ended in the green, with gains reaching up to 0.40 per cent.
The broader markets closed in the negative, with the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 down 2.96 percent and 2.64 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the fear index India (VIX) ended up 5.03 percent at 15.33 points.
The BSE’s market breadth was fairly negative, with 5 dropping equities for every gaining share.
All sectoral indexes were down, with the Nifty PSU Bank and Realty indices leading the way and closing down more than 3%. This was followed by the Bank Nifty, Auto, Media, Metal, Private Bank, and Select Healthcare indices, which all fell by more than 2%.
