The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 gave up all of their early morning gains and finished more than 0.5% lower on Wednesday, one day before the weekly F&O expiry. Investors were cautious ahead of the release of key US retail inflation data later tonight.
The BSE Sensex fell 373 points, or 0.7%, to 53,514, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.6%, or 92 points, to 15,966. Index heavyweights like Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), HDFC Bank, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), TCS, and ICICI Bank contributed the most to the indexes’ decline.
Broader markets performed better than equity frontrunners. The S&P BSE MidCap index fell 73 points, or 0.3%, while the S&P BSE Smallcap index ended flat with a negative bias.
