The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 closed 1% lower on Tuesday, owing to profit-taking a day before the RBI’s monetary policy decision on June 8th.
The BSE Sensex fell 593 points, or 1.02 percent, to 55,107, while the NSE Nifty 50 index fell 153 points, or 0.92 percent, to 16,416. Index heavyweights like Infosys, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), and Titan Company, among others, contributed significantly to the index’s decline.
Broader markets also fell on Tuesday. The S&P BSE Midcap index fell 0.8% or 175.36 points to close at 22,564, while the S&P BSE Smallcap index fell 0.7% or 175 points to close at 26,065.
The India VIX, or volatility index, finished 1.1% higher at 20.43. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Bank index fell nearly 1% to 34,996 levels.
