Stock Market Updates, Friday, March 21, 2025: Benchmark market indices continued their climb to a fifth straight trading session, posting the greatest weekly increase in more than four years.
The BSE Sensex reached a high of 77,042 and eventually finished at 76,906, up 557 points. The BSE benchmark was up 3,077 percent, or 4.17 points, for the week.
The NSE Nifty 50 index peaked at 23,403 and closed at 23,350, up 160 points. This week, the Nifty rose 4.26 percent, or 953 points, the most since February 7, 2021.
Among the Sensex 30 stocks, NTPC was the biggest gainer, up 3.3% on Friday. Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Larsen & Toubro, Kotak Bank, Nestle India, Tata Motors, and Axis Bank were the other big winners. In contrast, Mahindra & Mahindra fell by more than 1%. Other companies that suffered losses included Tata Steel, Infosys, Titan, and Bajaj Finserv.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index rose more than 1% today, while the SmallCap index rose more than 2%.
Sectorally, the BSE Oil & Gas index increased by more than 2%. The Power, Healthcare, and Financial Services indices also saw significant gains. On the other hand, the BSE Consumer Durables index fell 0.8%, while the Metal index dropped 0.4%.
