On Tuesday, Indian indices halted a three-day gain due to weak global market trends and persistent foreign fund outflows.
The Sensex rose 16.17 points, or 0.03 percent, to 53,177.45, while the Nifty50 rose 18.15 points to 15,850.20. Oil and gas, energy, and metals performed well, while consumer durables and telecommunications declined.
M&M, Reliance, Tata Steel, and DRL were the top performers on the 30-stock index, while Titan, Asian Paints, and the Bajaj twins were among the worst performers.
On the Nifty50 index, the biggest gainers were ONGC, Hindalco, M&M, and Coal India, while the biggest losers were Titan, Asian Paints, and Bajaj Finserv.
Rupee fell 44 paise to a record low of 78.81 (provisional) against the US dollar.
