Today’s Stock Market News | Sensex, Nifty, and Share Prices Highlights: In a highly volatile session, Indian equity markets ended in the red. Following a gap-down opening with a loss of more than 500 points, the BSE Sensex sought support from Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, ITC, and NTPC to end slightly lower on Wednesday.
The BSE Sensex closed at 53,027, down 150 points or 0.28 percent, while the NSE Nifty 50 index closed at 15,799, down 51 points or 0.32 percent. The major draggers were HDFC Life, HUL, Apollo Hospitals, Axis Bank, Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finserv, and UPL, which fell up to 4.5 percent. The BSE SmallCap and MidCap indexes also finished in the red in the broader markets.
Except for the Nifty Oil and Gas index, most of the indices closed in the red. The Nifty IT, Nifty Bank, and FMCG indices all fell more than 1%.
