Stock Market Highlights on Tuesday, December 3, 2024: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, rose for the third day in a row on Tuesday, closing in the green. The 30-share Sensex rose 597.67 points, or 0.74 percent, to close at 80,845.75 after reaching a day high of 80,949.10.
The NSE Nifty50, like the Sensex, rose 181.10 points, or 0.75 percent, to settle at 24,457.15. On Tuesday, the index traded between 24,481.35 and 24,280.00.
The day finished in favor of the bulls, with 41 of the 50 Nifty50 constituent companies closing in positive territory, headed by Adani Ports, NTPC, Adani Enterprises, Axis Bank, and State Bank of India, which surged up to 5.86 percent. Bharti Airtel, ITC and Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Life, and Sun Pharma, on the other hand, were among the nine stocks that ended lower, with losses extending up to 1.50 per cent.
The fear index, or India VIX, which measures market volatility, fell 2.22 percent to 14.37 points.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices closed with gains of 0.89 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
All sectoral indices, with the exception of Nifty FMCG and Pharma, closed in the green.
The Nifty PSU Bank and Media indices ended up more than 2% each. This was followed by the Bank Nifty, OMCs, and metal indices, all of which closed 1% higher.
