Domestic equity market benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 fell nearly 1% on Tuesday, owing to weak global cues. The BSE Sensex closed 509 points, or 0.9%, higher at 53,887, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed at 16,058. Top index drags included Infosys, Nestle India, HCL Tech, HUL, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, and Titan Company.
On the other hand, the only gainers on the S&P BSE Sensex were NTPC, Bharti Airtel, and Bajaj Finance. The India VIX increased 1% to settle at 18.55. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Bank index fell 0.95 percent to 35,132.
