Bulls returned to Dalal Street for the monthly futures and options expiry session and pushed the headline indices higher in a show of dominance.
The S&P BSE Sensex advanced 1,041 points, or 1.87 percent, to 56,857, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 287 points, or 1.73 percent, to 16,929. The top gainers on the Sensex were Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv, both up more than 10%, followed by Tata Steel and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Bharti Airtel was the worst performer, followed by Ultratech Cement and Dr Reddy’s. The Bank Nifty rose 1.62 percent, while the Indi VIX fell 6.18 percent to 17 levels.
