Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, May 15, 2025: Benchmark Indian equities markets closed higher on Thursday, May 15, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that India has proposed to decrease tariffs on US exports, easing trade tensions between the two countries.
The BSE Sensex, which reached an intraday high of 82,718.14, finished at 82,530.74, up 1,200.18 points or 1.48 percent. Except for IndusInd Bank, which fell 0.24 percent, all 29 member companies of the Sensex finished in the green. Tata Motors led the gain among Sensex constituent stocks, rising 4.16%, followed by HCL Technologies (3.37%), Eternal (2.22%), and Adani Ports (2.19%).
Similarly, the Nifty50 closed above 25,000 at 25,062.10, up 395.20 points or 1.6%. During the session, the index moved between 25,116.25 and 24,494.45.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices closed up 0.70 percent and 0.54 percent, respectively. On Thursday, all of the NSE’s sectoral indices settled higher.
The fear index (India VIX), which measures market volatility, closed 1.93 percent lower at 16.89 points.
Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto and Realty were the top gainers, rising 1.92 percent each. Other noteworthy gainers included Nifty Metal (1.74 percent), IT (1.16 percent), Private Bank (1.09 percent), and Financial Services (1.29 percent) and Bank Nifty (1.01 per cent).
