Stock Market Highlights, Wednesday, May 7, 2025: Indian equities benchmark indices closed with slight gains on Wednesday following India’s precision strike on terror training sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The BSE Sensex ended at 80,746.78, up 105.71 points, or 0.13 percent. The NSE Nifty50 gained 34.80 points, or 0.14 percent, to settle at 24,414.40.
The broader markets outperformed benchmark indexes, with the BSE Midcap index increasing 1.36 percent and the BSE Smallcap index rising 1.16 percent.
Except for Nifty FMCG, pharma, and healthcare, all other sectoral indices closed in the green, with auto, media, real estate, and consumer durables up by more than 1% apiece.
From the Sensex constituents, 17 out of 30 equities closed with gains. Top gainers included Tata Motors (5.2%), Bajaj Finance (2.02%), Eternal (1.41%), Adani Ports (1.41%), and Titan (1.27%). Among the laggards were Asian Paints (-4%), Sun Pharma (-1.95%), ITC (-1.3%), Nestle India (-1.06%), and Reliance Industries (-1.01%).
Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures market volatility, climbed 0.34 percent to 19.06 points.
