Share Market Highlights, Wednesday, January 8, 2025: The main equity indices faced stiff resistance on Wednesday, with the BSE Sensex recovering almost 650 points from its day’s low to end at 78,141.06, down 58 points or 0.07 percent. Today, the index fluctuated between 77,486.79 and 78,319.45 points.
NSE Nifty50 closed at 23,688.95, down 19 points or 0.08 percent. The Nifty50 reached a high of 23,751.85, while the low was 23,496.15.
28 of the 50 Nifty50 constituent stocks closed in the red, with Apollo Hospitals, Trent, Shriram Finance, and Ultratech Cement leading the way. However, ONGC, TCS, Reliance Industries, ITC, and Asian Paints were among the 22 equities that ended in the green, with gains ranging up to 3 per cent.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 down 1.05 percent to 56,270.60, while the Nifty Smallcap100 lost 1.65 percent to 18,365.65.
Sectoral indexes showed diverse patterns. The Nifty Consumer Durables index led the decline, dropping 2.16 percent.
The Nifty Healthcare Index fell 1.09 percent, followed by Nifty Pharma, which fell 0.94 percent.
Other major losers included Nifty Financial Services (-0.83%) and Nifty PSU Bank (-0.79%).
On the positive side, Nifty IT was the biggest gainer, up 0.60 percent. The Nifty FMCG index also closed in the green, up 0.44 percent.
