Share Market Highlights, Wednesday, January 1, 2025: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, closed the first trading day of the current year on a high note. The 30-share Sensex rose 368.40 points, or 0.47 percent, to 78,507.41 on Wednesday. Today, the index fluctuated between 78,756.49 and 77,898.30 points.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 finished at 23,742.90, up 98.10 points, or 0.41%, from the previous close. The Nifty50 had a high of 23,822.80, while the low was 23,562.80.
As many as 37 out of 50 Nifty50 constituent stocks finished in the green, with Maruti Suzuki India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, and Tata Motors leading the way with gains of up to 3.01 percent each. In contrast, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Hindalco, Adani Ports, and ONGC and Tata Steel were among 13 constituent stocks of Nifty50 that ended in the red with losses extending up to 1.40 per cent.
Broader markets followed the benchmarks’ lead and closed higher, with the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 up 0.44 percent and 1.02 percent, respectively.
With the exception of Nifty Realty and Pharma, all of the NSE’s sectors indexes ended in green. Auto equities outperformed others, with the Nifty Auto index closing 1.34 percent higher.
