Stock Market Highlights, Stock Markets Today, Feb 5: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, finished Wednesday’s turbulent session in negative territory. The BSE Sensex fell 312.53 points, or 0.40 percent, to close at 78,271.28. The index moved between 78,735.41 and 78,226.26 throughout the day.
The NSE Nifty50, like the Sensex, ended lower by 42.95 points, or 0.18 percent, at 23,696.30. On Wednesday, the Nifty50 peaked at 23,807.30 and fell to 23,680.45.
The Nifty50’s 25 component stocks closed in the red, led by Asian Paints, Titan Company, Nestle India, Britannia Industries, and Tata Consumer, which lost up to 3.40 percent. However, ONGC, Hindalco, Apollo Hospitals, and BPCL were among the companies that closed higher, with gains of up to 2.90 per cent.
Broader markets outpaced benchmarks, with small-cap shares leading the way, with the Nifty Smallcap100 index up 1.85%. The Nifty Midcap100 index closed up 0.68 percent.
The NSE’s sectoral indices likewise settled in the green, with the exception of the Nifty FMCG, Realty, Auto, and Consumer Durable indices, which fell by up to 1.85%. Among others, the Nifty PSU Bank, Metal, OMCs, and Media indices all rose by more than 1%.
