Stock Market Highlights, Monday, December 16, 2024: The benchmark market indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 closed in the negative, echoing their Asian rivals. The 30-share Sensex closed at 81,748.57, down 384.55 points, or 0.47 percent. Today, the index fluctuated between 82,116.44 and 81,551.28 points.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 closed 100.05 points, or 0.40 percent down, at 24,668.25. The Nifty50 reached a high of 24,781.25, while the low was around 24,601.75.
Monday finished overwhelmingly in favour of bearish, with 36 out of 50 Nifty50 member companies falling, led by Titan, TCS, Hindalco, Adani Ports, and BPCL, which lost up to 1.93 percent. However, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Life, and Power Grid were among the 13 stocks that ended in the green with gains extending up to 1.90 per cent. Meanwhile, ITC was the only Nifty50 constituent stock that ended on a flat note on Monday.
Notably, the broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap100 closing up 0.77 percent. The Nifty Smallcap100 index followed suit, finishing 0.64 percent higher.
Sectoral indices, on the other hand, closed on a mixed note Monday. Realty stocks jumped in otherwise lackluster markets, with the Nifty Realty index closing 3.10 percent higher, powered by Oberoi Realty, Prestige Estates, and Macrotech Developers. Media, Pharma, and PSU Bank were among the indices that finished up, while Nifty Financial Services, FMCG, IT, Metal, and OMC finished lower by up to 0.97 percent.
