Stock Market Highlights today, Monday, July 28, 2025: The benchmark Indian equity indices closed lower, weighed down by selling pressure in banking, IT, and real estate counters. The BSE Sensex slid 572.07 points, or 0.70 percent, to 80,891, while the NSE Nifty50 dropped 156.10 points, or 0.63 percent, to 24,680.90.
Only Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, Power Grid, HDFC Bank, and ITC managed to post gains of up to 1.23 percent among the Sensex constituent stocks, with the rest falling. Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Titan, TCS, and HCL Tech were among the top laggards, with losses ranging from 1.14% to 7.31%.
The selling spread to the broader markets, with the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices closing with losses of 1.26 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
Except for Nifty FMCG and Pharma, all other NSE sectors indexes closed in the red, with the Nifty Realty index being the worst impacted, finishing down 4.26 percent. The Nifty Realty Index’s ten constituent firms all closed in the red, with Lodha Developers leading the way, falling 6.31 percent.
The market breadth was negative, with 2,211 out of 3,089 traded stocks on the NSE closing in the red, 811 ending higher, and 67 remaining unchanged.
India VIX, which gauges volatility in the market, settled higher by 6.98 per cent at 12.06 points.
