Stock Market Highlights, Friday, January 3, 2025: The benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 finished the week’s last trading session in negative territory. The 30-share Sensex fell 720.60 points, or 0.90 percent, to close at 79,223.11. Today, the index fluctuated between 80,072.99 and 79,147.32 points.
The NSE Nifty50 finished at 24,004.75, down 183.90 points or 0.76 percent. The Nifty50 reached a high of 24,196.45, and a low of 23,978.15.
32 of the Nifty50’s component stocks closed in the red, led by Wipro, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports, and Cipla, which lost up to 2.83 percent. However, ONGC, Tata Motors, Titan, Nestle India, and SBI Life were among the 18 constituent stocks that ended higher, with gains of up to 5.11 per cent.
Broader markets followed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closing down 0.30 percent and 0.24 percent, respectively.
Sectoral indices closed on a mixed note. The Bank Nifty index fell as many as 616 points to 50,988.80, led by HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, which closed down 2.53% and 1.94%, respectively. The Nifty FMCG, Media, Metal, PSU Bank, and OMC indices all rose by up as 1.26 percent. Meanwhile, the Nifty Financial Services, IT, Private Bank, and Healthcare indices were the worst losers, falling by up to 1.41 percent on Friday.
