Stock Market Highlights, Monday, February 17, 2025: Benchmark equity indices reversed early losses to break an eight-day losing streak, closing in positive territory on Monday. The BSE Sensex closed at 75,996.86, up 57.65 points (0.08 percent) from the previous close and approximately 702.10 points higher than the intra-day low of 75,294.76. In the previous eight trading sessions, the BSE Sensex had lost 3.4%, or 2,645 points.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 closed 30.25 points, or 0.13 percent higher, at 22,959.50. On Monday, the index traded between 22,974.20 and 22,725.45.
34 of the 50 Nifty50 constituent companies closed higher, with Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid Corporation, and Adani Ports leading the way with gains of up to 3.93 percent. Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, TCS, and ICICI Bank were among the top laggards on the NSE Nifty50 with losses extending up to 3.45 per cent.
The broader markets also recovered throughout the second half of the trading session, with the Nifty Midcap100 closing up 0.39 percent. In contrast, the Nifty Smallcap100 index concluded with a 0.04 percent increase.
However, the market’s breadth remained bearish. Out of 2,955 equities traded on the NSE today, 1,014 rose, 1,871 fell, and 70 stayed unchanged.
Pharma, Banks, Financial Services, Healthcare, OMCs, Consumer Durables, and Metals were among the NSE’s top performing sectors. The Nifty Pharma index was the best performer among the sectors, closing 1.27 percent higher, led by Glenmark Pharma and Ajanta Pharma.
Meanwhile, the Nifty Auto, FMCG, IT, and Media indices finished down by up to 0.71 percent.
