On Monday, benchmark indices rose more than 1%, fueled by nearly universal buying. The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 54,521, up 760 points, while the Nifty closed at 16,279, up 229 points. Blue chip stocks such as Infosys, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, TCS, Axis Bank, L&T, SBI, and Reliance Industries boosted the frontline indices. All of these index heavyweights gained between 0.85 and 4.5 percent.
Except for the Nifty Pharma index, all sector indices settled in positive territory. The Nifty IT index gained more than 3%, followed by the Nifty PSB index (up 3%), and the Nifty Metal index (up 3%). (2.5 per cent).
