Share Market Highlights Today: Following a strong session on Wall Street overnight, Indian equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 began the final session of the trading week higher, tracking gains in other Asian markets.
The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 57,061, down 460 points or 0.8%, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed at 17,102.5, down 142.5 points or 0.83 percent.
The Nifty Bank index fell 335 points, or 0.92 percent, to 36,088.
Gains in oil and gas, financial, and metal stocks pushed the headline indices higher, but weakness in select IT stocks such as Wipro limited the upside.
In early trade, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices were up and down 0.2 percent, respectively.
Several blue-chip companies, including Maruti Suzuki, Wipro, UltraTech, and SBI Cards, are scheduled to report their financial results for the January-March period during the day.
