The most anticipated box office showdown of the year did not disappoint, as Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 competed for dominance this Diwali. Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again has grabbed an impressive lead, grossing a stunning Rs 43.5 crore nett on its first day in India. Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, outperformed expectations on Day 1, laying the groundwork for a successful run. Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 made a great showing, earning Rs 35.5 crore.
The box office rivalry between Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will continue this weekend. Singham Again has a bigger screen allocation, which surpasses Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s limited distribution in major metros like Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. This is Ajay Devgn’s biggest-ever opening, besting the Rs 32 crore that Singham Returns debuted with a decade ago.
In order to level the playing field, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 team has filed a complaint with the Competition Commission of India (CCI), asking a 50-50% screen split. However, since Singham Again already has a huge screen count advantage, the outcome of this appeal is unknown.
Singham Again had an overall occupancy percentage of 65.35%, with the majority of people watching the picture in the evening (75.91%). Even morning shows recorded an occupancy of 39.39%, afternoon shows reached 71.90%, and night shows had an occupancy of 74.19%. Cities such as Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai, and Pune have the highest occupancy rates, ranging from 60 to 70%. In Mumbai, where there were 1101 concerts, the occupancy was 73.50%, and Delhi and NCR, with 1310 shows, had a steady 63.00% occupancy.
Singham Again’s opening day collection is the greatest of any film in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, signifying a promising start for the picture. While the box office results aren’t as high as expected, the lack of bulk purchases or reduced tickets guarantees that they genuinely reflect the film’s success.
Rohit Shetty returns to his successful series with Singham Again, following the smash hits Singham (2011) and Singham Returns (2014). Following the box office flop of Cirkus (2022), which earned Rs 32.10 crore, Shetty has assembled an all-star cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Ranveer Singh, to revitalize the franchise. The film’s original Ramayana-inspired storyline adds an added depth of interest this Christmas season, making Singham Again a significant release. The film was produced on a reported budget of over Rs 300 crore.
