Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, November 21, 2024: The benchmark equity indices closed Thursday’s trading session in the negative. The BSE Sensex fell 421.80 points, or 0.54 percent, to 77,156.80. The index traded between 76,802.73 and 77,711.11.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 fell 168.80 points, or 0.72%, to 23,349.90, after trading between 23,263.15-23,507.30.
Notably, Adani Group stocks suffered the most, falling more than 23% on reports that Gautam Adani and other executives were accused by US authorities with allegedly bribing Indian officials worth $250 million.
37 of the Nifty50’s 50 constituent stocks fell, headed by Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, SBI Life, State Bank of India, and NTPC, which lost up to 23.44 percent.
Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, Hindalco, Apollo Hospitals, and Grasim were among the 13 Nifty50 constituent stocks that finished in the green, with gains of up to 3.25 percent.
In broader markets, the Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 indices declined 0.30 and 0.46 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, India’s VIX, which measures market volatility, closed 2.09 percent higher at 15.99 points.
Except for the Nifty IT, Realty, and Private Bank, all sectoral indices closed in the red. Nifty PSU Bank, Media, and Metal were the leading laggards, losing more than two percent each.
