This year’s August 15 will be a busy day for movie fans, with Khel Khel Mein, Vedaa, and Stree 2 all competing at the box office. Will the three films try to top Independence Day’s record-breaking opening? Pre-sales for the horror-comedy Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, are off to a strong start in India, outpacing the final opening day bookings of prior films with big-name stars.
The makers of Stree 2, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, have announced that advance booking for the film is now open. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, is a sequel to the 2018 hit Stree. The sequel will hit theaters on August 14, on the eve of Independence Day, with special night screenings beginning at 9:30 pm, as announced by production house Maddock Films on their social media platforms.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the production house shared a poster of the horror comedy and captioned, “Stree 2- Advance Booking Open Now. Woh Stree hai, woh kuch bhi kar sakti hai! Isilye woh aa rahi hai ek raat pehle, just for you. So book your tickets NOW. #Stree2, the legend returns on Independence Day eve, with night shows from 9:30 pm onwards on 14th August 2024.”
Stree 2 Advance Booking Report
Stree 2 has sold about 50,000 tickets for the opening day (without block seats) as of 5 PM on August 10 (not including previews), as per sacnilk reports. The total amount of tickets sold were 1.75 crore. The horror comedy has already surpassed the final opening day booking total of Sarfira (starring Akshay Kumar; about 50 lakh) and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha (starring Ajay Devgn; approximately 70 lakh), with more than three days remaining until the scheduled release on August 15.
Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy looks to be the film that will give the beleaguered screening area the much-needed boost, with a guaranteed sell-out on opening day. The pre-sales cycle will indicate whether the film makes Rs 30 crore or whether it goes on to make Rs 35 crore, even though an opening of Rs 25 crore is certain.
About Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Stree 2’
Stree, starring Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi, was one of the most critically and commercially successful films of 2018. Aside from Rajkummar and Shraddha Kapoor, all three actors are returning for the sequel. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, was set in the small Madhya Pradesh town of Chanderi, where men are kidnapped by an evil spirit known as Stree in the middle of the night during the festival season. It was based on the Nale Ba urban legend, which became famous in Karnataka during the 1990s.
For Stree 2, the trailer was a huge success, and the album’s great songs helped the campaign continue to grow. The moviegoer base is appropriately thrilled about the sequel to a horror comedy, and if the film now lives up to the hype in terms of content, the box office numbers could surge to unprecedented heights.
Stree 2 is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, with Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios also involved in the production. The Stree franchise joins Maddock’s growing horror-comedy world, which includes Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya and the newly released Munjya, starring Sharvari Wagh and Abhay Verma.
