The Odisha government has taken an important step toward addressing charges of ineligible beneficiaries in its flagship Subhadra Yojana plan.
The Department of Women and Child Development has written to the Commerce and Transport Departments to verify the list of beneficiaries who own four-wheelers, following reports about lakhs of ineligible people entering the scheme.
The controversy has attracted significant criticism, with many eligible women complaining that they were excluded from the scheme.
The government has asked the Commerce and Transport Department to verify recipients’ four-wheeler ownership information from the vehicle database and submit a report. Similarly, the Health agency has been asked to submit information about deceased beneficiaries, and the Food Supply Department has been told to verify the information of women who sell rice and are registered with the agency.
The Subhadra Yojana, which commenced on September 17 of last year, intends to give financial help to women in Odisha.
However, allegations of invalid recipients and the exclusion of qualified women have raised questions about the scheme’s administration. The government’s decision to review the list of beneficiaries and remove ineligible individuals is viewed as a step toward guaranteeing transparency and fairness in the scheme’s implementation.
