The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the ISRO Technical Training Programme. Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, secretary, MSDE, and S Somanath, secretary, Department of Space and chairman, ISRO, signed the MoU.
Over the next five years, more than 4000 ISRO technical employees will be trained under the programme. The programme aims to establish a formal framework for short-term courses that will provide training for the skill development and capacity building of ISRO technical staff in the country’s space domain, in accordance with industry requirements. The training would be provided at MSDE’s National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) located throughout India.
“With the advent of technology and the world moving towards digitization, it is imperative that we upskill our technical staff across sectors. The upskilling of tech experts at ISRO is a step in that direction. ISRO has been a game-changer when it comes to redefining the space domain at large over the last ten years. These training programmes will enable technical personnel to embrace and augment cutting-edge technology, thereby elevating India’s standing in the space domain. We look forward to contributing to their success as they chalk a new future of the space for India,” Aggarwal said.
The training program’s goal is to improve the skills of various technical staff working across ISRO centres and units under the Department of Space (DOS). The programme, with the assistance of MSDE and its state-of-the-art training institutes across the country, would provide training in specific disciplines to upgrade employees’ skill sets in accordance with the latest industry trends and requirements. Under the terms of the MoU, ISRO will collaborate with MSDE and the associated NSTI to develop a detailed training calendar, training curriculum, and syllabus to achieve the program’s overall goals. The trainees will be given trainee kits by ISRO.
MSDE would also set up labs, workshops, classrooms, specimens, and other training facilities at identified National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) in consultation with the Office of Capacity Building (CBPO). MSDE will also be in charge of the overall management and supervision of the programme to ensure its successful execution.
