Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to hit many districts in Odisha over the next three days, from March 20 to March 23.
According to the weather forecast, thunderstorms with lightning and hail are expected to hit various sections of the state, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 60 kmph. The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for various districts, asking inhabitants to prepare and be mindful of the meteorological conditions.
On March 20-21, an orange warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapada districts, where thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and strong winds (40-50 kmph) are expected. A yellow alert has been issued for Sundargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, and Deogarh districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds (30-40 kmph) are expected.
On March 21-22, the IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts. These seven districts have received an amber warning. In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for other districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, and Deogarh. These districts will experience lightning with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph.
For March 22-23, IMD prediction reads: “Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.”
The weather forecast further reads: “Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal”.
