The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, which is part of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued a lunchtime weather advisory warning of isolated light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in Odisha’s northern, western, and southern districts in coming days. Dry conditions are forecast to remain elsewhere, while heatwaves are likely to strike one or two areas in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur over the next two days. Thunderstorms are expected to intensify on Day 3 with stronger gusty gusts, triggering an Orange warning in some regions.

Day 1 (valid up to March 15): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak; dry weather elsewhere.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Heatwave conditions likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur.

Day 2 (March 15 to March 16): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely at one or two places over an expanded area including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati; dry elsewhere.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Same as Day 1 for thunderstorms and gusty winds in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, plus heatwave in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur.

Day 3 (March 16 to March 17): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Nawarangpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati; dry elsewhere.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared to Take Action): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) at isolated places in Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at one or two places across Nawarangpur, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 4 (March 17 to March 18): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Nawarangpur, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati; dry elsewhere.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

Day 5 (March 18 to March 19): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar; dry elsewhere.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

Days 6–7 (March 19 to March 21): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati; dry elsewhere. No warnings.

Outlook for subsequent 3 days (March 21–24): No large change expected.

There is no significant change in maximum (daytime) temperatures over the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual drop of 3-5°C over the next 4 days, and no significant change thereafter across Odisha.
