Tokyo: Krishna Nagar won India’s second gold medal from the badminton courts and fifth overall, beating Hong Kong China’s Chu Man Kai in three hard-fought games within the final of the Men’s Singles SH6 class on the Tokyo Paralympic Games on Sunday.
After Suhas Yathiraj claimed silver in SL 4 within the morning, India’s hopes for another gold medal from the badminton courts at the Yoyogi National Stadium depended on Nagar, the world No. 2 in his class, and the 22-year-old from Jaipur did not disappoint as he played a superb aggressive game to prevail over Chu 2-1 in 43 minutes.
Suhas L. Yathiraj went down fighting to France’s World No 1 Lucas Mazur in three well-fought games within the final of the Men’s Singles SL4 class and had to be satisfied with the silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games here on Sunday.
Yathiraj, who is the district magistrate of Gautham Buddha Nagar (NOIDA) in Uttar Pradesh and had practised mostly in the nights after work to prepare for the Paralympics, played aggressively and at nice pace to unsettle the seasoned French star.
This took India’s overall tally to 19 medals — 5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
