Donald Trump, the former US president, advanced in his quest for the GOP candidacy by winning the Republican presidential caucus in Missouri.
Another triumph for the former president, who had already won South Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, New Hampshire, and the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, was achieved in the midwestern state.
With over 68% of the vote, Trump prevailed in Tuesday’s Republican primary in Michigan, a crucial swing state, according to Xinhua news agency.
He was given additional delegates during a Republican convention, solidifying his win in the state up north.
Having already gathered over 100 delegates from the contests thus far, Trump will require a minimum of 1,215 delegates to secure the Republican presidential candidacy.
Super Tuesday, the day most states cast their ballots in the presidential primary election, is quickly coming. This day usually sees the distribution of almost one-third of all delegates to either the Republican or Democratic conventions. On March 5, which is Super Tuesday this year, votes will be cast in about 15 states and one territory.
The US Supreme Court ruled earlier this week to consider Trump’s claim of immunity from prosecution in his attempts to contest the results of the 2020 election. Trump hopes to delay legal action while he runs for office again.
The US presidential primary, which runs through June, comes before the Democratic National Convention in August and the Republican National Convention in July, when delegates formally choose the party’s nominee for president.
The 2024 Election Day falls on November 5.
