Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, a romantic comedy starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, became only the second Hindi film of 2023 to genuinely attract audiences, following Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The film did well at the box office during its first five days of release, earning Rs 70.24 crore. The film saw a significant drop in collections on its first Monday, but it still managed to amass a respectable total.
The industry tracker Sacnilk reported that director Luv Ranjan’s film earned approximately Rs 6 crore on its first Monday, which is a 64.87% drop from Sunday. The film recorded occupancy of 10.38%. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared that Rs 3.03 crore of its day-six revenue came from the national chains, PVR, INOX and Cinepolis. He wrote on Twitter, “#TuJhoothiMainMakkaar at national chains… Day 6 / Mon…#PVR: 1.41 cr #INOX: 98 lacs #Cinepolis: 64 lacs ⭐️ Total: ₹ 3.03 cr Nett BOC. Note: Tentative numbers. Final numbers might vary marginally.”
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has managed to maintain the momentum at the box office, succeeding Pathaan, which was released in January. Shehzada and Selfiee, the other two February releases, both failed miserably as the audience rejected their subpar content.
Critics have a mixed response about Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which also starred Anubhav Bhassi, Dimple Kapadia, and Boney Kapoor. However, the audience appears to have been more forgiving. It tells the story of a young couple who refuse to end their relationship. When their families become involved, things get strange.
It remains to be seen whether the Ranbir Kapoor-led film will be able to stay in theaters for more than a week. Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, starring Rani Mukerji, and Nandita Das’ Zwigato, starring Kapil Sharma, will be released soon. While Zwigato has won awards at several film festivals, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway has wowed audiences with its trailer.
