As part of the Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas 2022 celebrations, the University Grants Commission (UGC) today launched cyber security and data protection programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
These courses have been launched with the goal of raising awareness about cybercrime and ensuring that the country’s youth, whether from a technical or non-technical background, has a basic understanding of cyber security.
“This syllabus aims to create more aware, responsive and responsible digital citizens, thereby contributing effectively to an overall healthy cyber security posture and ecosystem,” the official statement from UGC reads.
The institutes have been granted permission to invite cyber security or computer/IT qualified faculty, industry experts, or subject matter experts to impart knowledge on these courses.
Furthermore, the MHA has requested that all states/UTs observe ‘cyber Jaagrookta (Awareness) Diwas (CJD)’ on the first Wednesday of each month in all schools, colleges/universities, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and municipalities. The UGC has directed all higher education institutions to follow suit. HEIs have also been directed to appoint a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure the smooth implementation of the Cyber Crisis Management Plan (CCMP) for countering cyberattacks and cyber terrorism.
