Kiev: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has handed over the second part of the questionnaire for the war-torn country’s candidacy for European Union (EU) membership to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to a social media post by Zelesnky’s press service, the document was handed over during an online meeting between Ukraine’s and the EU’s leaders on Monday.
During the meeting, Zelensky expressed gratitude to von der Leyen for sending “clear signals of support” to Ukraine on its path to EU membership.
On February 28, he signed an official appeal to the EU requesting Ukraine’s accession through a new special procedure.
During her April visit to Kiev, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker handed Zelensky a questionnaire.
On April 18, the first part of the document was submitted to the EU.
The first part of the questionnaire, according to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna, covers political and economic issues, while the second part contains questions assessing Ukrainian legislation’s compliance with EU laws.
